Alyssa Sanders
Alyssa Sanders is a player who has come through the Nomads United development pathway. Alyssa progressed through our junior programme before becoming part of the Nomads Academy system, representing the club in our 13th and 14th Grade Academy teams.
Her performances and development at Nomads earned her the opportunity to move into the Wellington Phoenix Academy, continuing her football journey within one of the country’s leading high-performance environments.
Alyssa’s progression is a great example of the opportunities available to young female players within the Nomads pathway, and we are proud to have played a part in her development.
Amber De Wit
Amber De Wit is a proud product of the Nomads United pathway, progressing through our junior and youth programme and becoming a key player within our Academy system across the 13th, 14th and 15th Grade teams.
In 2025, Amber earned the opportunity to join the Wellington Phoenix Academy, marking the next step in her football journey. Since then, she has continued to make outstanding progress, making her debut for the Phoenix Women’s Reserves as well as representing New Zealand at U17 Women’s level.
Amber’s development is a fantastic example of the opportunities available through the Nomads pathway, and everyone at the club is incredibly proud to see her succeeding on the national stage. We look forward to continuing to follow her journey.
Dorothy Yek
Dorothy Yek is another talented player to emerge from the Nomads United pathway. A true Nomads girl, Dorothy progressed through the club’s junior and youth ranks, playing in our 13th, 14th and 15th Grade Academy teams.
During her time at the club, Dorothy also stepped up to play senior football with NW United, gaining valuable experience at women’s level before earning a move to the Wellington Phoenix Academy in 2025. Dorothy featured for the Phoenix Women’s Reserves before an unfortunate injury cut her time short in Wellington.
Now back in Christchurch, Dorothy has returned to the game in impressive fashion, representing the Canterbury United Dragons Futsal team, where she has been scoring goals regularly and continuing to showcase her attacking quality.
We are incredibly proud of Dorothy and the journey she has taken through the Nomads pathway and beyond.
To grow and empower girls’ and women’s football in our community by creating inclusive opportunities, strong development pathways, and positive experiences that inspire more girls and women to participate and thrive in the game.
At Nomads United AFC, we are committed to helping grow the girls’ and women’s game locally and contributing to the long-term growth of the female game across New Zealand.
Currently, girls and women make up approximately 10% of football participation in Canterbury. We believe there is enormous potential to grow this number by creating welcoming environments, clear pathways, and high-quality experiences for female players of all ages and abilities.
Our ambition is to help build a thriving girls’ and women’s football community, where players feel empowered through sport, develop lifelong friendships, and have the opportunity to pursue their football journey at any level they aspire to.
Football can be a powerful tool for building confidence, resilience, leadership and belonging, and we are proud to play a role in supporting the next generation of young wāhine in our community.

First Kicks & Fun Football (Girls-Only Options)

These competitions follow the same structure as the traditional mixed programmes but provide an opportunity for girls to play alongside and against other girls in a supportive environment.
Girls will still have the option to participate in mixed teams if that is their preference.
Junior & Youth Girls Football
As players grow, we offer girls-only teams across our junior and youth age groups, providing fun, safe and supportive environments for female players to continue developing their skills and enjoyment of the game.
Teams are available in all dual-age banded grades including:
